The Stein family was making news as early as 1991. Just in the way they ate.

As reported in the San Diego Tribute, the Steins were one of first families in the area to recognize diet not only as a health issue, but as an environmental one as well. They even grew -- and continue to grow -- many of their own fruits and vegetables on their Rancho Sante Fe estate, teaching their children the inherent value of land and what it can provide.
